People...I love, Places...I love, Pursuit of Good Coffee

a BIG thanks

To the wonderful specialty coffee community in DC!

I cannot even begin to express how thankful I am for this group of people, some of which likely don’t realize their influence and impact they have had on my family and me.

Tonight we dropped off the last of the TNT (Thursday Night Throwdown) items to the other TNT coordinators and then headed home to finish packing up our home in DC. Although rare, it wasn’t uncommon for me to miss a TNT here and there but tonight it was different. Tonight I was missing my first of many WDC’s TNTs for the near future.

where are we??

That was my first thought when Jonathan and I attended our very first TNT in DC back in July 2011. There we were, crammed practically shoulder to shoulder in the space at Peregrine at Eastern Market with dozens of baristas and their friends from coffee shops around the District. And where was my husband, as close as he could get to the action.

I remember feeling so out of place that night as it seemed everyone knew each other so well and obviously their love for and knowledge of coffee and the coffee world was greater than mine.  Yeah, I probably wouldn’t be attending many more of these…ha, I was wrong.

Wow, how time flies!

Until I started this post, I hadn’t realized just how much happened within a short time.  In the fall of 2011, shortly after the launch of Districtbean.com, Jonathan began his weekend shifts as a barista.  By spring 2012, he was competing in his very first TNT at Pitango Penn Quarter and we had had the opportunity to meet and become friends with many of those active in DC’s coffee community.

That first TNT that I thought would likely be my only ended up being the first of many for me…and for Jack :).  In fact, by the time he was 2-months-old, he was right there with me cheering on his daddy and before too long, another one of the familiar faces at the monthly events.

Wouldn’t be where we are without you guys!

.I wish I could thank each and every one of you personally for the support, encouragement and friendship you have given.  A special thanks to the team at The Coffee Bar, for making our family a part of yours; the DMV Coffee team for the opportunity to be a part of the specialty coffee community, and the teams at our frequent coffee shops (The Coffee Bar, Big Bear Cafe, Filter, Peregrine, The Wydown) for inspiring us.
